GoldandBlack.com Saturday Simulcast: Purdue legend Rick Mount, On3 national editor Mike Huguenin

In today’s Saturday Simulcast, Purdue men’s basketball legend Rick Mount joins the show along with On3 Network national executive editor and college sports writer Mike Huguenin.
Mount, who remains Purdue’s all-time leading scorer with 2,323 points 53 years after his Boilermaker eligibility expired, led Purdue to the Final Four as a junior in 1969. A two-time All-American Big Ten MVP, he came to Purdue as a schoolboy legend. Mount was the first high school team athlete on the cover of Sports Illustrated back in February 1966.

Huguenin and GoldandBlack.com’s Tom Dienhart will discuss the state of college football, including the transfer portal and NIL. Huguenin and Dienhart have known each other for decades and have a unique perspective on the national landscape. Not surprisingly, hearty discussion ensued on how Purdue is faring in the transfer portal, how long it will take for NIL issues to be smoothed out and some of the challenges for new Boilermaker coach Ryan Walters.

The interview with Mount occurred at Stookey’s a Thorntown, Ind. restaurant about 10 miles from Mount’s Lebanon home. Mount has hosted a small group of Purdue-related friends dating back years, a group that included former Boilermaker administrator and assistant coach Bob King. Mount was recruited to Purdue by King in 1966 after one of the most ballyhooed courtships in college basketball history. Mount celebrated his 76th birthday on January 5 and while he doesn’t attend games in Mackey Arena with the exception of his appearance for Rick Mount Bobblehead Night in January, 2016.
