This time, the Boilermakers fought.
Toward the end of season full of blowout losses, the Boilermakers again fell behind big Friday night at Michigan State, trailing 24-3 after the Spartans scored on all four of their first half possessions.
Nevertheless, another loss, Purdue’s 10th in a row.
A wide-open Jahmal Edrine dropped what would have been a game-tying touchdown with about five minutes left; a few plays later, Purdue turned the ball over on downs and MSU survived, 24-17.
Dropped passes, a tipped-ball turnover marred a comeback in which the Boilermaker defense pitched a second-half shutout and Hudson Card wound up throwing for around 350 yards and a touchdown, with the one INT in the fourth quarter.

A few quick takeaways …
• Give Purdue’s coaching staff credit for coming up with some solutions to its red-zone offense problems.
• Give Card credit at the end of this disastrous season for giving Purdue a chance.
And certainly the defense, the worst P4 unit in the country this season, but something very different Friday night in East Lansing.
• Same story that has been playing out since Oregon State.
Something bad happens early — tonight, Devin Mockobee‘s fumble — and everything falls apart. Purdue was only down 7-3 at the time, but the turnover gave the Spartans a short field and ultimately a touchdown. After that, penalties struck, negating a Purdue takeaway, setting up more Spartan scores — Jeffrey M’ba‘s personal foul in the red zone was awful — and marred a half that ended with Purdue getting a short field goal blocked, then giving up another touchdown before half.
