The Boilermakers trailed 17-3 late in the first half before Hudson Card engineered an 87-yard two-minute drill finished off by a touchdown throw to Jahmal Edrine, sparking Purdue’s comeback.

A few quick takeaways …

• This was a good look at what Hudson Card‘s Purdue career should have been to this point.

• Third-and-long defense remains an abomination for Purdue. This was a very mediocre Northwestern offense that converted three third downs of 10 or more yards

• Purdue mismanaged a key first-half sequence, switching quarterbacks — as was the plan — after Card started well, taking the air out of the offense. Then, with Ryan Browne at QB, it went for a fourth-and-four in Boilermaker territory, failed and set up the Northwestern TD that put them ahead 17-3.
