COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Long-time Purdue target Trey Thompson showed this weekend in Omaha why he’s been Matt Painter and his staff’s priority for a year now at this weekend’s adidas 3SSB event in the Omaha area during the spring live period.
Since, the forward from Greenville, Tenn., has been offered by Virginia and Indiana to go along with his standing offers from Purdue, Tennessee and others.

TREY THOMPSON SCOUTING REPORT
Thompson isn’t the biggest forward out there — having trimmed down from around 230 pounds last summer — but he is immensely skilled as a spot-up three-point shooter, ball-handler and passer, a point forward type who’ll be best suited for the 4 but capable of playing like a wing. He possesses distinct bounce, allowing him to really get off the floor and finish above the rim, and a quick enough first step to drive past bigger people facing the basket. He uses his body and long strides well to carve out space for himself once past his defender.

He is capable of handling the ball well enough in the open floor to lead breaks and equipped well to fill the wing in transition to get catch-and-shoot threes or penetration opportunities. Thompson is a real transition weapon running the rim due to his relative speed and ability to finish above the rim. He’ll be a functional offensive piece for someone as he moves well without the ball and is particularly effective in the side ball screen actions his Tennessee Impact team use to feature him and generate matchups.
His guard skills offensively combined with his plus athleticism define him, but everything about his game is amplified by his distinct energy and tenacity. Thompson gives great effort, throws his body around, moves with purpose and is clearly a productive teammate, perpetually talking, pointing, clapping, etc.
