Purdue (5-3 overall; 3-2 Big Ten) is deep into preparation for a big game at home on Saturday vs. Iowa (4-4, 2-3), kicking off at noon ET. A victory will keep the Boilermakers in contention for the Big Ten West title in what shapes up to be a big month. Win out, and Purdue will punch its ticket to the league championship game as West Division champs.

Purdue senior safety Cam Allen talked about how the unit looks coming off a bye week following a 35-24 loss at Wisconsin, which was Purdue’s worst outing of the season. The Boilermaker defense has work to do in the back-end, where there have been issues stopping the deep pass. And injuries are threatening to compromise the secondary, too.

“Yeah, for me, personally, it’s just a lot of stuff been going through my head, just thinking about things in the future, like how my career and stuff like that’s gonna go,” said Allen. “I just had to talk to a couple guys, just not thinking about stuff like that in the future. Just worrying about the now, how I can get better to improve my circumstances in the future. So, you know, just not thinking ahead, being locked in on each and every single day.”

Purdue LB Kieren Douglas knows what to expect from Iowa on Saturday.

“(Iowa’s) gonna be good,” said Douglas. “And it’s gonna be a challenge. And I do expect them to come out and play physical. That’s gonna be the key. I think that’s key every year playing Iowa, is out-physically them.”
