No doubt, when Cameron Gorin committed to Purdue, it made his father, Brandon, happy.

The elder Gorin was a former Boilermaker offensive tackle. Now, his son is following in his footsteps.

“He handled himself with grace and class during his decision process, while being mindful of those he might disappoint along the way,” Brandon Gorin posted on social media after Cameron committed.

The 6-5, 265-pound Gorin is a three-star prospect from Hamilton Southeastern High in Fishers, Ind., Gorin tabbed Purdue over offers from the likes of Minnesota, Louisville and Indiana, among others. He ended up choosing the Boilermakers over Louisville.

Gorin is currently the No. 41 offensive tackle nationally and the No. 6 prospect in Indiana, according to On3.

GoldandBlack.com spoke to Mike Kelly, the head coach at Hamilton Southeastern High, to learn more about Gorin.

Q: What type of an offensive lineman is Purdue getting?

A: Big, physical. I think his best football is still in front of him. I think he’s extremely athletic, which is going to serve him well when he gets to the next level.

Q: So, he’s legit 6-5?

A: Yes. He might end up being 6-6. He may be there now.

Q: How heavy can he get?

A: I don’t think he’ll have a problem getting to 315.

Q: What do you think he needs to improve?

A: Flexibility. His explosive power. To be as good as he is, and there’s still some room to improve on that flexibility. I think the sky’s the limit in terms of what he can become if he wants to work.

Q: Does he play any other sports?

A: No.

Q: Do you use him on defense?

A: At nose tackle a bit.

Q: Why do you think he picked Purdue?

A: I think he’s comfortable. They are familiar to him. I think they’ve recruited him hard. They have wanted him. I challenge our kids always to go where you’re wanted, not to where you want. I think they want him.

Q: Will he graduate early?

A: I don’t know. I haven’t really talked with him a whole lot about what his plans post-high school in terms of early enrolling. He might be positioning himself for that opportunity, but I don’t know that he’s made that decision yet.
