How did Boilermaker portal departures fare in 2024?
After Purdue saw more roster turnover ahead of the 2024 season, GoldandBlack.com looks back on the departures and how they performed in their new homes this fall.
PRINCE JAMES BOYD – FLORIDA ATLANTIC
The defensive tackle played in nine games for the Owls, recording seven tackles, one sack and one pass breakup. With his eligibility exhausted, he announced that he will enter the NFL Draft.
OC BROTHERS – UAB
Brothers saw action in 11 of UAB’s games, totaling 47 tackles and three quarterback pressures. After spending his collegiate career between Auburn, Purdue and UAB, he will enter the NFL Draft.
DEION BURKS – OKLAHOMA
Burks battled injuries in Norman, suiting up for just five games. Still, he finished second on the team in receptions (31) and third in yards (245) with three receiving touchdowns. The Michigander also ran five times for 32 yards. Oklahoma finished the season with a 6-6 record. He will return to Oklahoma for his final season.
ELIJAH CANION – LIBERTY
The tall wideout played in all 11 of Liberty’s games. He finished third on the team in receptions (25), second in yards (354) and tied for the team lead with three receiving touchdowns. Liberty finished 8-3.
JP DEETER – ARIZONA STATE
Deeter played sparingly, totaling 66 snaps across seven games for the Sun Devils. He recorded two tackles in 2024. Arizona State finished 10-2 and will play in the Big 12 Championship Game.
DYLAN DOWNING – MIAMI OHIO
The veteran tailback played sparingly in 10 games for the RedHawks. He carried 44 times for 163 yards and a touchdown. Miami (OH) will take on Ohio U in the MAC Championship Game on Saturday.
JOSH KALTENBERGER – MARYLAND
Kaltenberger started at center for the Terrapins, playing nearly 800 snaps during the 4-8 campaign.
SULAIMAN KPAKA – MISSISSIPPI STATE
Kpaka played in 11 games, starting 10 of those, for the Bulldogs. He totaled 30 tackles, 4.5 for loss, for a Mississippi State team that finished at 2-10. He’s used all of his college eligibility and will enter the NFL Draft.
GARRETT MILLER – TEXAS A&M
Miller did not play for Texas A&M in 2024 after an offseason injury. He could possibly seek a medical hardship, but that remains up in the air.
DOMANICK MOON – WESTERN MICHIGAN
The Fort Wayne native saw action in five games at linebacker in Kalamazoo, recording nine tackles in 113 snaps. He still holds a year of eligibility.
BRAXTON MYERS – SOUTHERN MISS
After just one year at Purdue, Myers saw action in all 12 games for Southern Miss. He racked up 28 tackles, two pass breakups and an interception for the 1-11 Golden Eagles. He re-entered the transfer portal following a coaching change in Hattiesburg. Three years of eligibility remain.
ANDRE OBEN – MONMOUTH
The offensive lineman played in two games as a reserve for Monmouth, who went 6-6 at the FCS level.
MALACHI PRECIADO – SOUTH ALABAMA
Preciado started at center for the Jaguars, playing 797 snaps during the season. He still has two years of eligibility remaining. South Alabama went 6-6 in 2024.
ROMAN PITRE – ARIZONA STATE
Pitre played 44 snaps across five games, but he recorded no stats. Arizona State will play in the Big 12 Championship Game after a 10-2 regular season.

NIC SCOURTON – TEXAS A&M
Scourton started all 12 games for the 8-4 Aggies. He recorded 37 tackles, 14 of which came for loss, five sacks and a forced fumble. He projects as an early first-round draft pick in this spring’s NFL Draft.
TJ SHEFFIELD – UCONN
In his final season of eligibility, Sheffield saw action in all 12 games for the Huskies. He led the team with 49 receptions and finished second with 474 yards. He helped lead UConn to an 8-4 season.
COLLIN SULLIVAN – HOUSTON CHRISTIAN
The wideout played in nine games for Houston Christian, catching nine passes for 131 yards. He will have one final season of eligibility left. Houston Christian finished 5-7.
ZION STEPTOE – TULSA
Steptoe played in all 12 of Tulsa’s games, catching 15 passes for 203 yards. Two seasons of eligibility remain for Steptoe. A 3-9 finish has Tulsa searching for its next head coach and led Steptoe to enter the transfer portal.
KHORDAE SYDNOR – VANDERBILT
The edge rusher played in 10 of Vanderbilt’s 12 games, notching 12 tackles, 5.5 of which came for loss, and four sacks. He still has one final season of eligibility left for the Commodores, who are bowl-bound with a 6-6 record.
CLYDE WASHINGTON – UTAH STATE
Washington suited up in six games before a knee injury ended his season in October. He recorded 36 tackles, 2.5 for a loss. The Aggies finished 4-8.
CHRISTIAN WOMACK – SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA
The young tailback played in just one game this season, running for 12 yards. Three years of eligibility remain for Womack, who re-entered the transfer portal this week.
ABDUR-RAHMAAN YASEEN – SOUTH FLORIDA
The senior wideout saw action in seven games for the Bulls, recording 19 catches for 244 yards. He does still have one final season of eligibility following the Bulls’ 6-6 season.
