ROCK HILL, S.C. — College coaches can’t take their seats courtside for the first July evaluation period until Thursday, but the adidas circuit tipped the week off on Wednesday with a day full of showcase and play-in games, with several Purdue recruiting targets in action.

Some notes from Rock Hill Wednesday …

LUKE ERTEL IS BACK

After being sidelined by a troublesome ankle — first injured at NBA Camp in this very building — for the majority of the June recruiting periods, Boilermaker commitment Luke Ertel scored 19 points Wednesday in his July debut, an Indiana Elite loss to D1 Minnesota, a showcase game that won’t count toward IE’s standing in bracket play.

If Ertel experienced rust, it might have been seen in his three-point shooting on Wednesday, but in response to his uneven shooting from long range, he looked more than healthy in really attacking the paint off the dribble.

PURDUE ON THURSDAY

Matt Painter is expected to open the live period Thursday in Richmond, Va., to see in-state forward Noah Smith before making his way, presumably, down to Augusta and Rock Hill. Purdue will have assistant coaches at the Nike and adidas events all week, as well as the Under Armour event near Atlanta.

In Augusta, it’ll be an early start: 2027 point guard target Jaxson Davis plays at 8 a.m. Fellow junior-to-be target Isaiah Hill plays at 11.

ETC

• Purdue 2026 wing target Bo Ogden scored 22 points in his one game today.

• Newly offered senior-to-be center Arafan Diane went for 22 points and 13 rebounds in Iowa United’s tough win over Phenom United. The charismatic 7-footer from Guinea by way of Canada had NBA people watching him Wednesday. Thursday, he’ll have college coaches doing the same. Diane was offered by Purdue in June.

Jason Gardner Jr. and Cooper Zachary scored 24 and 19, respectively, for Indiana Elite’s 16s in an exhausting OT win over Garner Road.

Purdue has offered Gardner for 2027, and has seriously recruited Zachary, who made five threes Wednesday.

• Purdue has been showing interest in Canadian 7-footer Max Meyer, who like countryman Zach Edey did, attends IMG Academy. Meyer just returned from Switzerland where he played for Canada’s 19-and-under team.

Meyer said he has an offer from Michigan State, likely among others, but that he’s been disengaged from recruiting for a few weeks while playing overseas.

• Purdue 2027 PG target Kevin Savage was excellent in Game Elite’s win over Team Loaded, scoring 21 points on 14 shots, with just one turnover. Recent Purdue visitor Colben Landrew scored 18.

Much more to come throughout the week.
