Purdue felt like home for Luke Griffin, who saw familiar faces all around him during his official visit to West Lafayette this past weekend.

“I probably know six or seven of the coaches there,” said the Missouri offensive lineman.

Ryan Walters, Brick Haley, Marcus Johnson, Grant O’Brien and Sam Carter are among the current Purdue staffers Griffin knows from his days as a Tiger.

“That helped,” he said. “I also know (recruiting assistant) Tyler Miller and (general manager) Noah Joseph.”

Now, Griffin will get reacquainted with them all after committing to Purdue on Monday. He’s the fourth offensive lineman from the portal to commit to the Boilermakers, joining Ben Farrell (Indiana Wesleyan), Preston Nichols (UNLV) and Jalen Grant (Bowling Green).

“I just went up there and visited,” said Griffin, who was contacted by Purdue three weeks ago. “It feels like a special place. I got that gut feeling when I was there that this is the place to be. Whether it all works out football-wise and I get my shot at the NFL, great. If not, I am gonna get a good MBA from Purdue. Everything did it for me, academics and football.”

Griffin graduates from Missouri this weekend and will arrive at Purdue on May 29th. He has two years of eligibility. Most of Griffin’s experience has come at guard–where he figures to play for Purdue–but he’s willing to slot in wherever needed.

“I work hard, I’m a tough dude, I’m physical,” he said. “I may not have all of the athleticism, but I’m gonna come in and work as hard as I can every day and I’ll be one of the toughest dudes.”

Why did Griffin opt to leave Missouri?

“I didn’t feel like I had a fair shot in Columbia,” he said. “I have nothing bad to say about the university or Columbia in general. But it was time for me to move on and start fresh.”

Griffin is the seventh SEC player to commit to Purdue from the portal and the second Missouri player, joining long-snapper Daniel Hawthorne.

Griffin played in 30 games for the Tigers during his three seasons in Columbia. The 6-5, 328-pound Griffin started eight games at guard, including six in 2021. He saw action in 11 games last season, starting against Abilene Christian.

“I can’t wait to get there and get started,” said Griffin.
