Purdue’s defensive line will receiver a boost from Arkansas portal addition Isaiah Nichols.

Nichols will have one year of eligibility. He was a key part of the Razorback d-line rotation at tackle in recent seasons, leaving the team before its Liberty Bowl appearance vs. Kansas in 2022.

Nichols will join a Purdue defensive line that lost both starting tackles, as Branson Deen (Miami, Fla.) and Lawrence Johnson (Auburn) both transferred to play sixth seasons elsewhere. The Boilermakers welcome back Cole Brevard, Mo Omonode, Prince Boyd, Sulaiman Kpaka and Damarjhe Lewis, who is coming off a knee injury.

The 6-3, 315-pound Nichols, who played 1,580 career defensive snaps for the Razorbacks, was a part-time starter the past two seasons, starting 11 of 23 games. He became a full-time starter in 2022 and played more than any other defensive tackle on the roster.

In 2022, Nichols notched 16 tackles, one tackle for loss, two quarterback hurries and one pass breakup. He received a 55.1 PFF grade this season. Nichols finished his Arkansas football career with 78 tackles, including six for loss and 2.5 sacks.

A member of the Class of 2018, Nichols was a three-star recruit from Springdale (Ark.) High. He rebuffed offers from the likes of Iowa State, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Missouri and North Carolina State to stay home and play for the Razorbacks.
