Purdue CB Cory Trice won't play in Citrus Bowl vs. LSU
Multiple sources confirm that Purdue cornerback Cory Trice has left the team to prepare for the NFL draft after signing with an agent. That means Purdue (8-5 overall; 6-4 Big Ten) will be without its best defensive back for the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl vs. LSU on January 2 in Orlando.
In 2022, the fifth-year senior had a team-high 10 PBUs to go along with two interceptions, 34 tackles and a TD. The 6-3, 215-pound Trice was consensus honorable mention All-Big Ten.
Trice was a three-year starter who leaves campus having made 26 starts, including 13 in 2022. He missed all but two games in 2021 with a knee injury. Trice finishes his Purdue career with 106 tackles, 15 PBUs, five interceptions and two touchdowns.
Trice, who arrived on campus in 2018 as a safety before moving to corner in August 2019, has accepted an invitation to the 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl.
With Trice gone, Purdue’s top two cornerbacks vs. LSU will be fifth-year seniors Jamari Brown and Reese Taylor. Brown has made one start in 2022, while Taylor has started 12 games.

Depth beyond those two is thin. Purdue likely will have to turn to Jah’von Grigsby and Brandon Calloway for help, along with Bryce Hampton. Cornerbacks coach Ashton Youboty has remained with the program after Jeff Brohm took the Louisville job last week.
Co-defensive coordinator/defensive line coach Mark Hagen will call the defense vs. LSU with co-DC/secondary coach Ron English having already departed for Louisville.
Purdue is slated to begin bowl practices on Wednesday with co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Brian Brohm serving as interim head coach.
