Purdue has hired AJ Van Valkenburgh to be head football athletic trainer. He replaces Alyse King, who held the job for one season after arriving from Wake Forest.

Van Valkenburgh comes to Purdue from Stephen F. Austin, where he was Associate Athletic Director Sports Medicine/Student Athlete Welfare. He joined the Stephen F. Austin athletic training staff in February of 2017 and was promoted to the Lumberjacks’ head athletic trainer in May of 2017.

Van Valkenburgh spent one year as an athletic trainer and recovery manager at Active Recovery and Cryotherapy in Houston. Prior to that, he spent six years as a member of the athletic training staff for the Houston Texans, beginning with an internship from 2010 to 2012 before serving full time from 2012 to 2016.
