Purdue in the Pros: Week 2
Of the 12 Purdue players on NFL active rosters, nine suited up for their teams in week two of the season. How did they perform? GoldandBlack.com takes a look in our weekly Purdue in the Pros roundup.
LB MARKUS BAILEY – CINCINNATI BENGALS
The Bengals’ ace special teamer played 15 snaps on special teams and one at linebacker in the Bengals’ 27-24 loss to division rival Baltimore. Bailey stays busy, playing on nearly all of Cincinnati’s special teams units. The Bengals hope to get in the win column when they host the Rams in a 2022 Super Bowl rematch on Monday at 8:15 p.m. E.T.
LB DERRICK BARNES – DETROIT LIONS
Barnes started at linebacker in the Lions’ 37-31 overtime loss to the Seahawks, playing 38 snaps, recording five tackles and the team’s top defensive grade on Pro Football Focus. Though the Lions’ linebacker crew is deep, Barnes doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere. The Lions will hope to bounce back in Detroit when they host Atlanta on Sunday at 1 p.m. E.T.
WR DAVID BELL – CLEVELAND BROWNS
The second-year wideout played 11 snaps in the Browns’ 26-22 loss on Monday night, hauling in three passes for 27 yards. Those receptions marked Bell’s first stats of the 2023 season as he looks to make a move up the depth chart. The Browns host Tennessee at 1 p.m. E.T. on Sunday.
LB JA’WHAUN BENTLEY – NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
Bentley played all 63 snaps at linebacker in New England’s 24-17 loss to Miami on Sunday night, recording five tackles. Bentley remains a key cog in the Patriots’ defense as a sixth-year player, though the Patriots would like to get their first win when they head to take on the Jets at 1 p.m. E.T. on Sunday.
TE PAYNE DURHAM – TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
For the second consecutive week, Durham was inactive as Tampa Bay took down Chicago 27-17. The Buccaneers return to the field on Monday at 7:15 p.m. E.T. against the Eagles.
LB JALEN GRAHAM – SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
Graham was inactive for the 49ers’ 30-23 win over the LA Rams. The Niners get a primetime showdown with the Giants on Thursday Night Football at 8:15 p.m. E.T.
TE BRYCEN HOPKINS – LOS ANGELES RAMS
The fourth-year tight end played nine snaps as the Rams fell 30-23 against division rival San Francisco on Sunday. Hopkins, the Rams’ number two tight end, will look to pull down a pass or two when the Rams head to Cincinnati for an 8:15 p.m. E.T. kickoff on Monday.
WR CHARLIE JONES – CINCINNATI BENGALS
The rookie found the end zone for the first time in his NFL career, returning a punt 81 yards for a touchdown in the Bengals’ 27-24 loss to Baltimore. Jones was the only player in the NFL to return a punt for a touchdown this week. The 0-2 Bengals will hope to get their first win against the Rams on Monday night.

DE GEORGE KARLAFTIS – KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
The West Lafayette product continued his strong start to year number two in the NFL, recording a sack and a half as the Chiefs took down Jacksonville 17-9. Karlaftis played 53 of 66 snaps and pressured the quarterback five times in the victory. The Chiefs take on Chicago as a huge favorite on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. E.T.
WR RONDALE MOORE – ARIZONA CARDINALS
In the Cardinals’ 31-28 loss to the Giants, Moore played 41 snaps and recorded a 14-yard reception. The Cardinals hope to shake off their slow start, but it won’t come easy against the 2-0 Cowboys at 4:25 p.m. E.T. on Sunday.
RB RAHEEM MOSTERT – MIAMI DOLPHINS
Perhaps no running back has started the season stronger than the 31-year-old Mostert, who ran 18 times for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the Dolphins’ 24-17 primetime win over New England. He also added a six-yard catch out of the backfield. Mostert will look to keep shining as the Dolphins host Denver at 1:00 E.T. on Sunday.
QB AIDAN O’CONNELL – LAS VEGAS RAIDERS
O’Connell remained inactive in week two as the Raiders fell 38-10 at Buffalo. The rookie sits third on the depth chart behind Jimmy Garoppolo and Brian Hoyer. Las Vegas hosts Pittsburgh for Sunday Night Football at 8:20 p.m. E.T. on Sunday.
Note: San Francisco signed former Purdue CB Anthony Brown this week. Stay tuned should he suit up this week.
