Purdue nets commitment from Tennessee S D'Mon Marable
D’Mon Marable wasn’t planning on committing to Purdue when he arrived for a visit last Friday. But, that’s what happened.
“I just loved it,” said the 2024 safety from Clinton (Tenn.) High near Knoxville. “The way I was greeted … I’ve never had that happen. Everything about it is a good fit for me.”
The 6-2, 185-pound Marable went public with his commitment today, becoming the fifth member of the Boilermakers’ 2024 class. He had offers from the likes of Louisville, Minnesota, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Colorado, among others.
“The fact Coach (Ryan) Walters has developed some top players played a big part in my commitment,” said Marable, who made the trip to West Lafayette with several teammates. “Coach Walters has a lot of background with safeties and DBs.
“I also like (safeties) Coach OB (Grant O’Brien) as well as the defensive coordinator (Kevin Kane). They know how to communicate. It’s like a big family at Purdue.”

Marable broke the news to Walters in his office after Purdue’s scrimmage on Saturday.
“He was happy,” said Marable, who plans to enroll in January 2024. “He was excited.”
And Marable says he won’t waver on his pledge.
“No, sir,” he said. “I’ve been to a lot of places. But Purdue was different. It had a positive vibe.”
In addition to the staff being an attraction, Marable also was drawn to the defensive scheme.
“I think I can be very successful in that defense,” he said. “I’m a physical safety who likes to hit. I can attack. And I can cover, too.”
Marable is the second defensive back commitment in Purdue’s 2024 class, joining CB Hudauri Hines, the first pledge in the class back on January 29th.
