Purdue pulls away from Minnesota after halftime to earn first road win of the season

MINNEAPOLIS — Purdue turned a one-point halftime lead into a blowout Thursday night at Minnesota, as the 20th-ranked Boilermakers methodically separated from the hosts to earn their first road win of the season, 81-61

Purdue is now 2-1 in the Big Ten.

Fletcher Loyer scored 24 points, Trey Kaufman-Renn scored 17 points, and Braden Smith another 10 assists, along with five really important threes on an otherwise tough shooting night. He added 20 points and six rebounds.

Caleb Furst, who joined the starting five along with CJ Cox, gave Purdue 11 and six rebounds.

Purdue led by six points with 2:27 left in an ugly first half, but Minnesota hit a three and a three-point play in the final minute, making it just a 28-27 game at the break.

The Boilermakers trailed with 15:41 left to play, but dominated from there. Smith made four threes in the final 10 minutes.
