Purdue rallies after halftime to down #11 Gonzaga
HONOLULU — Purdue has its first signature win of the season, dominating the final 10 minutes Monday to beat No. 11 Gonzaga 73-63 at the Maui Invitational.
Zach Edey shrugged off a rough first half to finish with 25 points while guards Braden Smith and Lance Jones were the difference in the game.
Purdue trailed 35-30 at half, but Jones scored seven points in the first four minutes of the second to pull the Boilermakers essentially even, before a key stretch from Trey Kaufman-Renn with Edey on the bench helped build a seven-point cushion around the 10-minute mark. After that, it was all Purdue, as Gonzaga went 0-for-13 from three in the second half, Braden Smith (13 points, six assists, five steals) seized command and freshman Myles Colvin put the game away with a pair of threes in the final four minutes. Edey was 9-of-10 at the foul line.
Purdue meets No. 7 Tennessee Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET.
