Purdue RB King Doerue in transfer portal
Purdue senior running back King Doerue has entered the transfer portal. He will have two years of eligibility.
Doerue began the 2022 season as the No. 1 running back, starting the first two games. But Doerue suffered a calf injury that kept him out the next four contests. He returned to play vs. Nebraska on Oct. 15 and at Wisconsin the next week but didn’t play thereafter. In just four games, Doerue had 27 carries for 97 yards and three TDs in 2022.
He has 1,145 career yards rushing and 10 TDs. He also has caught 47 passes for 381 yards and three TDs. Doerue led the Boilermakers in rushing in 2019 as a true freshman (451) and last season (530).

Doerue’s early-season injury created an opportunity for Devin Mockobee, who seized it to become Purdue’s No. 1 back and one of the biggest surprises in the Big Ten. The redshirt freshman walk-on led the Boilermakers with 968 yards rushing and nine TDs. That rushing yard total set a school single-season mark for freshmen. Mockobee also had 32 catches for 274 yards. Mockobee is now on scholarship, one of the first acts of new Purdue coach Ryan Walters.
Junior Dylan Downing, another walk-on, emerged as the No. 2 option, notching 351 yards rushing and four TDs in 2022. The only other scholarship running back on the roster is freshman Kentrell Marks, who redshirted in 2022. It’s thought wideout Tyrone Tracy could transition to being a running back.
Purdue saw another running back enter the portal in December: Kobe Lewis.
