PURDUE BASKETBALL RECRUITING

So, Jalen Haralson has canceled his token visit for this weekend to Purdue. Whether the intent of that in the first place was due diligence, a show of respect to a school and coach that recruited him early on, or merely a leverage ploy to shake down someone else’s collective, we don’t know.

But it doesn’t matter. Purdue has barely recruited him, though Painter did stop at LaLumiere last week to check in. That was right after a stop in near-by South Bend, so it’s not like he went out of his way.

It’s gonna be Indiana, Michigan State or Notre Dame for Haralson.

Purdue does have Sebastian Williams-Adams coming this weekend. The overwhelming thought about him is that he’s headed to Kansas, but that’s been an interesting case. Purdue offered him to expand its board and see what happened, and the kid kind of took it from there, showing as much interest in Purdue as it showed in him, as we understand it. He really wanted to visit, so he will.

Effectively, though, the realistic possibilities for Purdue remain Tre Singleton and Trent Sisley at forward. Both still have visits to take.

Sisley is at Indiana this weekend. He’s given them every opportunity to get him despite multiple deterrents, so we’ll see what happens, but he has been pretty steadfast about keeping to his stated plan so maybe this can circle back to Purdue, which was long the favorite. He will not be Indiana’s No. 1 priority on campus this weekend, as IU works to try to pull Braylon Mullins and Eric Reibe (you’ll recall him as the kid who came to watch Purdue in Germany last summer) away from UConn.

Purdue is likely going to get Antione West, who is down to them and Nebraska. He is supposed to decide/announce before the end of the month.

It’s a waiting game on the others. Singleton has said he still wants to visit Virginia, Clemson and Notre Dame; Sisley has IU, Michigan State and Notre Dame. (BN)

PURDUE FOOTBALL RECRUITING

• Purdue is still looking to add to its 2025 class which numbers 14 commits. The staff is mostly seeking recruits on the defensive side of the ball at RE and DL. One of those is 2025 RE Chaz Coleman of Harding (Warren, Ohio), who was offered recently.

• The staff is continuing to pursue RE Jayden Woods (Penn State), RE Mariyon Dye (Tennessee), DL Kyler Garcia (Indiana) and DL Derry Norris (Georgia Tech). No pecking order on the 2025 recruits. All are receptive but no flips are imminent. Woods has been very receptive after Ryan Walters and Joe Dineen went to visit him during the bye week. And Garcia showed he’s interested by taking a visit to Purdue last weekend.

2025 Indiana DL commit Kyler Garcia.

• This is a pretty good look at Purdue’s top defensive and offensive targets in the Class of 2026. It’s early and this list is very fluid and could change quite a bit. And these are just guys we think are realistic top targets right now as far as recruits that have at least visited West Lafayette:

2026
Top defensive targets

DL JJ Finch Warren Central (Indianapolis)
RE/DL Braeden Jones Mount Carmel (Chicago)
RE/DL Jacob Alexander Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.)
RE Landon Bland Carthage (Mo.)
ILB Cincere Johnson Glenville (Cleveland)
ILB Karsten Busch St. Xavier (Louisville)
ILB CJ Sanna Olentangy (Lewis Center, Ohio)
S Kaden Gebhardt Olentangy (Lewis Center, Ohio)
S Marcello Vitti Divine Child (Detroit)

Top offensive targets
QB Oscar Rios Downey (Calif.)
RB Kory Amachree Haslett (Lansing, Mich.)
TE Jack Janda Detroit Central Catholic (Canton, Mich.)
WR Joel Wyatt The Webb School (Bell Buckle, Tenn.)
WR CJ Sadler Cass Tech (Detroit)
OL Brock Brownfield New Palastine (Ind.)
OL Brody Smith Maryville (Tenn.)

RE/DL Braeden Jones, Mount Carmel (Chicago)

• Purdue recently issued offers to 2027 RE Jayce Brewer of Franklin Central (Indianapolis) And Purdue also offered 2027 Chicago Brother Rice NT Brayden Parks last weekend. He could develop into a national recruit. (TD)

PURDUE FOOTBALL

• Purdue departed for Oregon after practice today, leaving a day earlier than usual for a road game. The squad is staying in Eugene, south of Corvallis. The team typically flies out of the Purdue airport but left out of Indianapolis, where a longer runaway is available to accommodate a heavier than usual plane. The team’s return flight will land at Purdue on Sunday morning.

Derek Schultz will work as the sideline report for the Oregon State game on the Purdue Radio Network, subbing for Kelly Kitchel. Tim Newton does play-by-play and Mark Herrmann is the analyst.

• CB Derrick Rogers Jr. was moved off the depth chart this week because of an in-house issue, according to Ryan Walters. It’s believed Rogers is not making the trip to Oregon State. He had been a backup. True freshman Earl Kulp has replaced Rogers on the depth chart. (TD)

PURDUE BASKETBALL

• Everyone is healthy and available for the start of practice Monday. Look for full coverage next week.

Don’t expect a lot of “news” right away on starting fives, redshirts or whatever early, because this is going to be a pretty blank slate. (BN)
