He led the squad with 106 total tackles, breaking College Football Hall of Famer Rod Woodson’s Purdue freshman record for solo tackles (67) in a single season with 74.
And Thieneman also set a school freshman standard with six interceptions, which tied for the Big Ten lead. He became just the eighth Boilermaker to record six interceptions in a season, the first since Ricardo Allen in 2013.
This week, Thieneman won Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for a fifth time, becoming the first defensive player in conference history to accomplish the feat. He is the first Boilermaker to win a weekly conference award five times.
