Purdue S Dillon Thieneman named B1G Freshman of the Year

The honors are starting to roll in for Dillon Thieneman.
Today, the Purdue safety was named Big Ten Thompson-Randle El Freshman of the Year. On Tuesday, he was named second-team All-Big Ten by the coaches and third-team by the media.
Also honored by the Big Ten on Wednesday: WR Deion Burks, who was named second-team all-league by the coaches and honorable mention by the media.
RB Devin Mockobee, C Gus Hartwig and RB Tyrone Tracy were consensus honorable mention All-Big Ten. QB Hudson Card and OT Marcus Mbow were honorable mention by the media.
A 6-0, 205-pound native of Westfield, Ind., Thieneman has been a starting fixture in the Boilermaker secondary all season.

He led the squad with 106 total tackles, breaking College Football Hall of Famer Rod Woodson’s Purdue freshman record for solo tackles (67) in a single season with 74.
And Thieneman also set a school freshman standard with six interceptions, which tied for the Big Ten lead. He became just the eighth Boilermaker to record six interceptions in a season, the first since Ricardo Allen in 2013.
This week, Thieneman won Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for a fifth time, becoming the first defensive player in conference history to accomplish the feat. He is the first Boilermaker to win a weekly conference award five times.
