EUGENE, Ore. — Purdue’s emergent defense ruled the day Saturday afternoon, as the No. 17 Boilermakers’ ground out a bare-knuckles 65-58 win at No. 13 Oregon.

The Ducks shot just 33 percent and committed 15 turnovers against a Purdue team that is not just playing well on defense, but dominating.

Trey Kaufman-Renn scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and made all nine of his free throws. Braden Smith added 15, seven assists and four steals as Purdue overcame 2-of-12 three-point shooting with defense and rebounding.

It was Purdue’s sixth consecutive Big Ten win and first over a ranked team.

Purdue led by 11 with 2:30 left, but had to overcome some turnovers and foul-line misses to run the clock out in its first trip to Eugene since the Ducks joined the Big Ten.
