Purdue WR Broc Thompson retires from football

Through a Wednesday evening social media post, Purdue wide receiver Broc Thompson announced that he is retiring from playing football due to a series of injuries.

Thompson played in just two games last season, aggravating a knee injury that after two games that forced him to the sideline. He was expected to play a key role in 2022 after staring as the MVP of the Boilermakers’ Music City Bowl win vs. Tennessee to cap the 2021 season, making seven catches for 217 yards and two TDs in a 48-45 OT win.

Thompson was coming off surgeries to each shin and a knee entering last year. He never got on track and was out all this spring.

A fifth-year senior from Indianapolis, Thompson spent his first two seasons at Marshall before transferring to Purdue prior to the 2021 season. He played in 14 games for the Boilers, making 33 catches for 485 yards and four TDs.
