PURDUE BASKETBALL RECRUITING

Not much to add here beyond what we have already reported and things are kind of on pause right now as coaches and players get a bit of a breather before the fall semester. But the Trent Sisley (Sept. 6 weekend), Antione West and Tre Singleton (Sept. 14) and Sebastian Williams-Adams (Sept. 23) visits are a go for the 2025 class. If Braylon Mullins is going to visit, it would be that weekend of the 23rd, we think, but someone is probably gonna get lost in the shuffle as he seems intent to visit a bunch of schools. He’s already been to UConn.

When Luke Ertel visits, and maybe commits, remains to be seen, but there is that possibility that Purdue gets a 2026 commitment before 2025. Ertel would be a very high probability guy for Purdue, even though he’d have plenty of reason to look hard at Butler, as well.

Next guy to watch in 2026 might be Steven Reynolds, who just offered by Michigan State. Not much reason to think they are planning an early commitment, but with the sisters at Purdue, it looms large. We do know that the family has at least considered a move to West Lafayette to be close to the kids. Not sure that will happen but that it even came up would seem positive for Purdue’s chances with Steven, who Purdue has recruited forever and really before pretty much everyone else. Reynolds is an absolute priority for Purdue.

Trey Thompson will be interesting, as Purdue’s a big offer for him earluy and he’s a big guy, so that’s Purdue’s sweet spot. Have to get him on campus.

We’d be shocked if Purdue didn’t push that 2026 class out to at least four.

With 2025, not much of a read on Trent Sisley right now. Purdue has looked really strong there for a very long time, but again this has gone on a long time and even though Indiana is a pretty iffy situation right now, the pull there might be worth giving them every opportunity, assuming IU sticks with him, which they probably will as it looks to in-state wins in a desperate recruiting year for that staff. PURDUE BASKETBALL

• Again, there’s a break here before school starts, so not much going on, but Trey Kaufman-Renn, Braden Smith, Fletcher Loyer and Will Berg have apparently stayed on campus.

• Creighton is still a go, far as we know.

PURDUE FOOTBALL

• It is thought Marcos Davila will be the No. 2 quarterback, with Ryan Browne No. 3. It would not be a surprise to see the staff have a package of plays for Browne to utilize his running ability. He’s a tough dude, too.

• The most respected player on the roster? That’s easy: It’s ILB Kydran Jenkins. Ask anyone.

• One area to watch on defense: The line. Lots to prove.

NTs Cole Brevard and Mo Omonode have looked great

Spider Dinkins and Jeffrey M’Ba have flashed

Damarjhe Lewis has been solid

• While Jahmal Edrine and CJ Smith have been noticeable standouts at wideout, how have others done?

Shamar Rigby has fully put himself in the conversation to play a lot. Andrew Sowinski has been reliable, consistent and solid. Leland Smith has done some good things with the “ones,” a little inconsistent but that is to be expected. Jayden Dixon-Veal is the other one that has gotten reps with the ones. He was out today.

• Purdue will hold its first camp scrimmage on Saturday.

• BTN will be at Purdue on Saturday. The show will air that night at 7 pm ET.

• Special teams coordinator Chris Petrilli recently showed his players a video of Texas bull-rider JB Mauney, considered to be the world’s best. The points Petrilli was trying to make:

-You have to be desperate to be great

-You better have the mentality that you’ll play through bumps and bruises

-Be hungry and willing to do any job asked of you, that “ride any bull” mentality!

• Former Purdue S Jake Thieneman—the oldest of the three Thieneman brothers—returned last week to speak to the team. His message:

“Told my story and pulled out seven key lessons from it with the goal of them having three key takeaways: something to help their football career, a framework for building wealth to set them up for long-term financial success and tactical things they can do now. Seven lessons were bet on yourself, think long term, embrace adversity, build wealth (wealth equation), test things out, make content, network. Told stories on each lesson.”

PURDUE FOOTBALL RECRUITING

  • 2025 Plainfield (Ill.) Central High OT Kaveon Lee de-committed from Northern Illinois. He has visited Purdue in the past. Is he a name to watch? Purdue is definitely interested. Gotta see how his season progresses.

• Still waiting on 2025 Fort Wayne (Ind.) Homestead LB Sam Steward to go public with his commitment. 2026 CB Zyntreacs Otey is supposed to go public in mid-August.
