Reviewing the impact of Purdue's 2023 inbound transfers
Purdue added 17 scholarship transfers to the roster ahead of the 2023 season, seeking to bolster the roster for Ryan Walters’ debut season in West Lafayette. The Boilermakers had several holes to fill, both due to losing five NFL draft picks and several contributors to the transfer portal.
How did the replacements fare in 2023?
ANTHONY BROWN – ARKANSAS
The defensive back transfer was limited to special teams action, seeing the field for 128 plays on various special teams units throughout the season.
MARKEVIOUS BROWN – OLE MISS
Brown played all 12 games at cornerback, finishing the season third on the defense in total snaps with 747. He recorded 37 tackles, a sack, two forced fumbles and five pass breakups.
HUDSON CARD – TEXAS
The Texas transfer started 11 games at quarterback, completing 215 of 365 attempts for 2,387 yards. He finished the season with 15 touchdown passes to eight interceptions, and he added 203 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. He’ll return to West Lafayette hoping to pick up where he left off, as he capped the season with strong performances against Minnesota and Indiana.
BAKYNE COLY – LAWRENCE TECH
The tall offensive tackle redshirted in 2023 as he adjusted to the jump to Big Ten football.
JAHMAL EDRINE – FLORIDA ATLANTIC
Edrine projected as one of the Boilermakers’ top receivers, if not the top receiver, entering fall camp. But, he suffered a season-ending ACL surgery early on in fall practices and never saw the field in 2023.
BEN FARRELL – INDIANA WESLEYAN
Despite the jump from NAIA to the Big Ten, Farrell played 327 snaps across seven games in his lone season as a Boilermaker. He lined up at left tackle, left guard and right tackle, where he spent most of his time.
JALEN GRANT – BOWLING GREEN
Grant played 802 of 888 possible snaps for the Boilermakers, the majority of them at the right guard spot. He started all 12 games for Purdue and still has a year of eligibility remaining.
LUKE GRIFFIN – MISSOURI
Griffin saw action in three games (Illinois, Iowa, Ohio State) before suffering a season-ending injury that required him to be carted off the field. He played exclusively at right guard for his 64 snaps.
AUSTIN JOHNSON – COLORADO
Johnson started the season-opener at center due to injuries to Gus Hartwig and Josh Kaltenberger. He closed the season playing a total of 135 snaps across five games.
MALIK LANGHAM – VANDERBILT
Langham started all 12 games on the defensive line, playing 444 total snaps. He recorded 12 tackles and pressured the passer six times, resulting in one sack.

BRAXTON MYERS – OLE MISS
Myers redshirted after transferring from Ole Miss following spring practices. He still has four years of eligibility remaining.
ISAIAH NICHOLS – ARKANSAS
The Arkansas transfer started every game on the defensive line, lining up for 478 snaps. He finished the season with 11 tackles and hurried the opposing passer 14 times, recording a sack. He earned honorable mention all-conference honors.
PRESTON NICHOLS – UNLV
Nichols led the offense with 838 snaps played, only missing 50 throughout the season. He played left guard for all of them, becoming one of Purdue’s most valuable transfers.
SALIM TURNER-MUHAMMAD – STANFORD
Due to a nagging hamstring injury, Turner-Muhammad never suited up for the Boilermakers in 2023.
MARQUIS WILSON – PENN STATE
Wilson began the season as Purdue’s top option at cornerback, and he looked the part prior to suffering a season-ending injury against Illinois. In five games, he recorded 19 tackles and broke up five passes.
