Ryan Walters has added another piece to his first coaching staff with Seth Doege coming on board as tight ends coach, GoldandBlack.com has learned.

Doege was an analyst at Ole Miss last season for Lane Kiffin. Before that, Doege was an assistant at USC from 2019-21 for Clay Helton, working as an offensive quality control coach and tight ends coach. Doege worked at Bowling Green in various capacities from 2016-2018.

The 34-year-old San Angelo, Texas, native worked at USC with Purdue offensive coordinator Graham Harrell, who like Doege was a quarterback at Texas Tech under the late Mike Leach.

Doege redshirted at Texas Tech in 2008–Harrell’s final season in Lubbock–and was a backup in 2009-10 before starting in 2011 and 2012. Doege threw for over 4,000 yards each of his final two seasons. In his Red Raider career, Doege had 8,636 yards passing, hitting 69 percent of his attempts with 69 touchdowns and 26 interceptions.

Doege was undrafted but was on the Atlanta Falcons practice squad in 2013 and played in the CFL for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2014-15.

Doege is the seventh known hire for Walters, joining Harrell (West Virginia offensive coordinator), defensive coordinator Kevin Kane (Illinois associate head coach/OLB coach), outside linebackers coach Joe Dineen (Illinois GA), secondary coach Grant O’Brien (Illinois defensive analyst), receivers coach Cory Patterson (Illinois running backs) and defensive line coach Brick Haley (Minnesota defensive line). Walters also has tabbed Kiero Small (Michigan) as strength coach.
