Three and Out: Purdue's loss to #3 Ohio State
Though struggling this season and exceedingly injured, Purdue hoped it could rise to the occasion Saturday afternoon and at least push third-ranked Ohio State.
Nope.
The Buckeyes rolled over the Boilermakers, 41-7, with a precision that spoke to both Ohio State’s strength, but also struggling Purdue’s vulnerable state.

Purdue managed just 259 yards of offense, its only points coming on Deion Burks‘ scoring catch early in the fourth quarter, with the Buckeyes leading 34-0 at the time.
The end of the first half encapsulated the day for Purdue.
Down 20-0 at the time and having done nothing offensively since the firsat drive of the game, which resulted in a missed field goal, Purdue bolted down the field to end the second quarter. But after a couple failed plays and a penalty, first-and-goal at the 1 became fourth-and-goal at the 21 and Julio Macias‘ 39-yard field goal clanged off the left upright.

Three things from the game …
• No secret to this one. Purdue was just overmatched. The injury-tattered offensive line in particular. Ohio State’s wide receivers are so good, too, that at times in this game, they just looked bored and let some very makeable plays go by the wayside.
• Purdue’s got to try something different in goal-line offense. The shotgun-offense, inside zone stuff just isn’t going to cut it against good teams, especially with an offensive line being held together with yarn and popsicle sticks. There’s no Marcus Mbow. Backups are playing and this hasn’t been a great line anyway. Luke Griffin, a backup himself, went down after one snap today, too.
• The Boilermakers have a real problem at kicker. Macias was 0-for-3 today on field goals. Between him and the sidelined Ben Freehill, Purdue’s 3-of-9 for the season and has failed on at least two PAT attempts. Off all the positions Ryan Walters went after in the portal last winter and spring, kicker was not one of them.
