2024 OL King Large commits to SMU
2024 Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive lineman King Large announced his commitment to SMU after his official visit. The Mustangs offered in May during the spring evaluation period.
The official visit stood out in a big way to Large, which led to him shutting down his recruitment.
“It was amazing,” Large told On3. “What stuck out was the family aspect, what they had to offer for me specifically and the development that I see myself being able to utilize when going there. They see me as a very versatile player that can play at multiple positions on the line, just like one of their previous players they had who got signed to an NFL team recently.
“What stood out was the vibe, energy of the people, SMU fans and I love Dallas.”
Head coach Rhett Lashlee and offensive line coach Garin Justice both impressed him on the visit as well.
“It’s becoming very strong within the short amount of time that I’ve known him (Justice), which played a most vital role in my commitment to SMU,” Large said of his relationship at SMU. “They are both great men and even greater coaches.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, the 6-4, 295-pounder ranks as the No. 54 overall interior offensive lineman in the nation and No. 57 prospect in California. On3 is even higher on him, ranking as the No. 47 overall interior offensive lineman.
Programs like Cal, Nevada, Oregon USF, UNLV and others have also offered Large.
This spring, Large impressed in a big way in front of On3 at Under Armour Los Angeles, earning a top performer nod.

“King Large was a dominant force in the 1-on-1 session today,” On3 assistant director of rankings Cody Bellaire wrote. “He displayed excellent foot quickness, and tremendous anchor ability in his pass sets. He was comfortable in stopping the bull rush when defenders used power as well as defending the speed rush by shooting his hands early and forcing defenders around the loop.
“Large has a tremendous understanding of leverage as well as individual hand usage, which will only set him up nicely in the long run at the next level.”
SMU already reeled in another offensive lineman from the recruiting weekend, landing Daphne (Ala.) Bayside Academy offensive lineman Graham Uter.
