Snellville (Ga.) South Gwinnett EDGE Jalen Shivers committed to SMU after visiting Friday for the Spring Game, he announced on Twitter. Defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux has a second commitment for his room in the 2025 recruiting class.

“Thank you God!!! Extremely Blessed and Proud to say i’m 1000% Committed to SMU!!!,” Shivers announced.

The 6-4, 220-pound prospect isn’t rated by a service at the moment, but in addition to SMU, holds offers from the likes of Arkansas State, App State, Bowling Green, Liberty, Western Michigan and others.

With Shivers on board, SMU now has eight commitments in the 2025 recruiting class. He joins four-star Duncanville (Tex.) quarterback Keelon Russell, four-star DeSoto (Tex.) wide receiver Daylon Singleton, three-star Duncanville (Tex.) defensive back Javion Holiday, three-star Duncanville (Tex.) safety Tyren Polley, three-star Arlington (Tex.) Mansfield Timberview defensive back Nathan Tilmon and three-star Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy defensive back Elijah Pratt.

SMU also landed another Peach State prospect in defensive lineman Kamron Cullins from Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb. Cullins committed to play for the Mustangs after a visit to spring practice earlier this year.

SMU’s 2025 recruiting class ranks 20th in the country, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. With spring practice in the books, Rhett Lashlee’s staff turns its attention to official visits and the spring evaluation period.
