Former SMU commitment and 2025 Tyler (Tex.) Chapel Hill safety Demetrius Brisbon told On3 he’s now committed to Baylor. The four-star prospect pledged to the Bears, where former SMU running backs coach Khenon Hall now coaches.

Brisbon attended a Junior Day last weekend in Waco after visiting Texas the weekend prior. Brisbon committed to SMU this summer, but is now staying in-state to head to the Big 12.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Brisbon ranks as the No. 339 overall prospect in the country and No. 26 safety in the nation. On3 has him as the No. 214 overall prospect in America and No. 18 overall safety.

Brisbon accumulated 5,237 yards and 69 touchdowns on 340-of-572 passing as the quarterback for Chapel Hill. He’s also added 4,493 yards rushing and and 73 more touchdowns over the last three seasons.

Hall never let up in his pursuit of Brisbon.

“Coach Hall is my boy. I talk to coach Hall every day. He’s FaceTimes me. He calls me every day. I feel comfortable with coach Hall. Coach Hall is really one of the reasons that I’m going up there to Baylor,” Brisbon told On3 earlier this year. “I got good connections with coach (Rhett) Holcomb, coach PJ Hall. I got some communications up there. I’ve been keeping up with them. Knowing they got my back and stuff means a lot.”

He’s a quarterback for Chapel Hill, but On3 projects Brisbon at safety.

“We’re projecting him long-term as a safety. I think the fact that he’s played quarterback is a good thing,” On3 national director of rankings and scouting Charles Power said this summer. “You see a lot of quarterbacks transition to play safety in college with their understanding of how offenses work and overall instinct, playmaking ability have done well at the position.”
