2025 EDGE Chinedu Onyeagoro commits to SMU
2025 Los Angeles (Calif.) King Drew Medical Magnet EDGE Chinedu Onyeagoro announced his commitment to SMU on Monday. He took an official visit to the Hilltop last month, which sealed the deal.
The 6-4, 215-pound prospect had programs like Arizona State, Northwestern, Washington and others after him, but SMU landed the standout edge rusher from California. Onyeagoro notched 103 tackles and 21 sacks as a junior.
“This SMU visit was great,” Onyeagoro told On3 of the visit. “It definitely blew me away and crushed all my expectations. The coaching staff is elite and they’re looking to build something special that I can definitely see my self fitting into.
“It’s a family over there and they have a real plan for me that can benefit me and the team. I feel like the program has a lot of momentum in its favor.”

EDGE coach Sam Dunnam and linebackers coach Maurice Crum helped key his commitment to the Mustangs.
“I talk with coach Dunnam and coach Crum the most. They are amazing people,” Onyeagoro said. “They want me to play that edge position, but also drop in coverage and blitz and play a little linebacker.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, he’s the No. 402 overall prospect and 37th-ranked EDGE in America.
With Onyeagoro on board, SMU now has 14 commitments in the 2025 recruiting class. He joins four-star DeSoto (Tex.) wide receiver Daylon Singleton, three-star Houston (Tex.) Heights offensive lineman Devinn Farris, three-star Duncanville (Tex.) defensive back Javion Holiday, three-star Duncanville (Tex.) safety Tyren Polley, three-star DeSoto (Tex.) safety Sael Reyes, McKinney (Tex.) defensive back Zay Gentry and three-star Bradenton (Fla.) Bayside Academy tight end Miles Uter, Santa Margarita Catholic (Calif.) offensive lineman Jacob Maiava and Corona (Calif.) Centennial offensive lineman Drew Hill.
