4-star WR X'Zavier Barnett commits to SMU
2026 Yoakum (Tex.) four-star wide receiver X’Zavier Barnett has committed to SMU, he announced on Friday on Twitter.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Barnett is the No. 279 overall prospect in the country, No. 45 wideout in America and No. 35 prospect in Texas.
X’Zavier Barnett took in SMU-Florida State this fall and the East Texas star enjoyed himself on the Hilltop. He also holds offers from Houston, Mississippi State and others.
“It was very fun and the vibe was top tier,” Barnett told On3. “I liked the new facilities. What stood out was when they let us walk across the field. That was pretty nice. Made me feel good. I like how they play.”

Wide receivers coach Rob Likens and assistant wide receivers coach Ryan Jenkins spent time with the 6-3, 190-pound wideout. The junior prospect liked how the coaching staff interacted with him.
“They said that they were excited to have me there,” X’Zavier Barnett said. “They are two great coaches.”
In the 2026 class, the Mustangs also hold commitments from three-star quarterback Cole Leinart and three-star defensive back Vick Lincoln.
