Andy Enfield on SMU's loss to Butler
SMU head coach Andy Enfield spoke with the SMU Sports Radio Network after Friday’s 81-70 loss to Butler on the road. Here’s what he had to say.
On Butler adjusting to the dunks and lobs by SMU early on: “We got to the rim quite a bit in the first half. In the second half, we made that run to take the lead and continued to do that. Then we missed that transition spot where we had to lead and we missed two consecutive layups and they went down and and then we had that flagrant foul that was posting up in transition. That was a 4-point play and so we went from up two to I think down six pretty quickly. Then we’re playing uphill from the rest of the game.”
On SMU being right there with Butler, but down for most of the game: “Well, sometimes on the road if you can take that lead in the second half like we did, that can energize you. Give Butler credit. They came back and as I said we missed those two layups in transition and they came down, it was a 6-8 point swing quickly. We could have extended the lead or at least kept the lead. That was a crucial part of the game. They made a lot of tough shots tonight and I gotta give them credit. They shot the ball exceptionally well and made some tough ones.”
On Butler big Andre Screen: “He’s not the toughest guy to go against when you look at their other players, but he did a good job of controlling the paint. He had five offensive rebounds. I would say probably seven or eight times our bigs had their hands on balls, just didn’t come down. It went out of bounds or they lost it. We need those possessions.”

On Butler’s game overall: “They played very well. They moved the ball. We challenged quite a few of them, and they made shots in our face. That’s why I said, I have to give them credit. They played very well. They made shots. We didn’t play good enough defense.”
On SMU guard Chuck Harris returning to Butler: “Chuck was solid. He played well offensively. He’s a good basketball player. We just need more consistency from everybody right now and go back and regroup.”
