2025 J Serra Catholic (Calif.) wing BJ Davis-Ray is one of the top prospects in America and is now committed to SMU, he announced. The 6-6 wing took an official visit to SMU last month.

Davis-Ray is a four-star prospect who held offers from the likes of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Saint Louis and others. SMU head coach Andy Enfield, director of recruiting Jeremie Hart and others made a connection with him that started before the summer.

SMU hosted him on a visit before the summer really heated up. The new coaching staff on the Hilltop got a chance to make an initial impression on the four-star prospect.

“He (Enfield) knows what he’s doing. He’s been around pros, so he’s not new to this at all. He definitely knows what he’s talking about,” Davis-Ray said. “Me and Coach Hart, we have a relationship already, but coach Hart, he’s been telling me about SMU and how well I will fit in. He’s been good to me.”

He’s the No. 112 overall prospect in the country and the No. 26 overall small forward nationally, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

This summer, he was a top performer at the Pangos All-American Camp that On3 was in attendance for. He’s now the fourth commitment for the Mustangs in one of the best classes in the country.

“BJ Davis-Ray is a long and rangy wing who is at his best when he is able to get in the open floor and stretch his legs,” On3’s Jamie Shaw wrote. “The 6-foot-6 wing has long arms and a projectable frame. He was a consistent producer and did the majority of his damage in the open floor and in passing lanes.”

Davis-Ray is joined by four-star Houston (Tex.) St. Francis Episcopal big man Nigel Walls and Dynamic Prep teammates and four-star prospects Jermaine O’Neal, Jr. and Jaden Toombs as commits for SMU Basketball in the 2025 class. O’Neal committed a week prior to Toombs and ranks as the No. 111 overall prospect and No. 25 small forward nationally, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Toombs is the No. 45 overall prospect and 4th-ranked center.
