SMU star running back Brashard Smith exited the FSU game in the 2nd quarter of Saturday’s matchup in Ford Stadium. The former Miami transfer had eight carries for 40 yards and a touchdown when he left the game.

UPDATE: Smith returned to the game on the final drive of the 1st half for SMU. He had one carry for five yards on that run.

He was tackled on a routine run then popped up and was grabbing at his shoulder area. Brashard Smith went to SMU’s medical tent before heading to the locker room.

When Smith left, the Mustangs were tied up at 7 with FSU. Smith scored the game’s opening touchdown on SMU’s opening drive.

The Mustangs were able to overcome Brashard Smith’s injury on that drive at least as quarterback Kevin Jennings hit wide receiver Jordan Hudson for a 42-yard touchdown pass on a flea flicker to put SMU up 14-7.

When SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee was asked about running a flea flicker against TCU up big, he said it was to “score a touchdown.” While SMU didn’t get a touchdown against the Horned Frogs, the Mustangs did hit pay dirt when it needed it in its first ever ACC contest.
