BREAKING: 4-star PF Jaden Toombs commits to SMU
SMU Basketball landed another major commitment in the 2025 class. On Wednesday, four-star Dynamic Prep (Tex.) big man Jaden Toombs committed to the Mustangs.
Alabama, LSU, Miami, Vanderbilt and Texas Tech were among those challenging the Mustangs for Toombs. Ultimately, Andy Enfield’s new-look program combined with the ACC was too much to pass up.
“They got a new coaching staff with coach Enfield and they just moved to the ACC,” Toombs told On3 before his decision. “I like how he translated the bigs he’s had.”
Toombs is the No. 42 overall prospect, 4th-best center in the nation and 3rd best prospect in Texas, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s one of the highest-ranked prospects to commit to the Mustangs in the modern recruiting era.

On3 national analyst Jamie Shaw likes what he saw in the Lone Star State standout. Shaw sees a player with a clear-cut identity who can do a little bit of everything for SMU.
“Jaden Toombs is a strong presence on the block,” Shaw wrote. “He knows who he is as a player, and he goes out and does that. There is some touch there; he can step out and knock down a catch-and-shoot three. He sets good screens to get his guys open. He is a good area rebounder, securing possessions in traffic. He is a solid athlete. Like to see him develop a more dynamic offensive approach, but there are some winning qualities.”
He joined his Dynamic Prep teammate and four-star forward Jermaine O’Neal, Jr. as commits for SMU Basketball in the 2025 class. O’Neal committed a week prior to Toombs and ranks as the No. 113 overall prospect and No. 25 small forward nationally, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. His father, Jermaine O’Neal, Sr. is a former NBA All-Star and coach of Dynamic Prep.
