SMU set to host USC transfer Vince Iwuchukwu

SMU is set to host USC transfer big man and San Antonio, Texas native Vince Iwuchukwu for a visit this weekend, according to a report from Derek Murray on Friday. New SMU head coach Andy Enfield coached and recruited the former Top 50 prospect at USC.
He’s fresh off a visit to St. John’s earlier this month to visit Rick Pitino’s program.
Iwuchukwu spent the past two seasons with the Trojans. He appeared in 45 games over that time in Los Angeles, including 16 starts. In those games, Iwuchukwu averaged 5.4 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 50.6% from the field in 15 minutes a contest.
This season, he started 11 of 31 games. He averaged 15.7 minutes per game and 50.4 percent shooting. He averaged 5.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while adding 19 blocks for Enfield’s team.
Iwuchukwu’s collegiate career got off to a scary start as he suffered an episode of cardiac arrest in the summer before the start of his freshman season. That caused him to miss the first 16 games of that year before making his debut in mid-January. He then missed the final three games of the year with a sore back before entering the offseason by undergoing a lumbar discectomy.

Iwuchukwu played high school basketball at Southern California Academy. He was a four-star prospect there as the No. 30 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He finished rated as the No. 4 C in the class and the No. 5 player out of California.
SMU just picked up its first transfer portal addition under Enfield on Friday. The Mustangs landed Oregon senior guard Kario Oquendo, who has one year of eligibility remaining.
