Dylan Goffney shares thoughts following spring camp
SMU football wide receiver, Dylan Goffney, spoke with the media following the conclusion of the Mustangs’ spring game. Here is some of what the sophomore wideout had to say.
On how he felt that spring ball went: “It was great. I feel like you start off kind of out of shape, but as we worked on our tempo, it got a ton better. From the first practice to now, you can really tell that we are finishing better. Those were our two goals for camp, get in shape and make sure that we finish.”
On adjusting to the new coaching staff: “I think that they helped make us tougher. Going through the practices with our coaches, they trusted us to go through the entire playbook. I think we got a lot better with our hands, yards after catch, and stuff like that.”
On adjusting to the new tempo of the offense: “In the offseason, it has been a lot of running. We have even been practicing tempo without a ball, just so that we can be ready for a game setting, whenever that comes.”
On where he will play within the offense: “I mean I hope to be playing a lot, but right now I’m playing on the left side. I can do the left side, right side and can even slide over into the slot, if I need to.”

ND coach addresses NFL rumors
On the outlook of the receivers room: “It is great, it keeps us on our toes and keeps us competing with each other. One day, Rashee (Rice) might be the best, but then Austin (Upshaw) might come back the next day and take over. It just seems like every single day, someone different is playing really well. So you just always have to be ready for your shot.”
On his first conversation with coach Rhett Lashlee: “The first conversation was good, he asked how my last season was, and if I was happy here. You can tell that he really cares about you as a person, and wants you to be your best, so it’s great.”
On connecting with WR coach Rob Likens: “It was probably a similar conversation. Coach Likens wanted to get to know you a little bit more, and since he’s my position coach, it was a longer conversation about where and how I play.”
