Florida State head coach Mike Norvell announced a key injury for the Seminoles at his Monday press conference. With Jaylin Lucas already out for the year, another FSU player is out for the SMU game.

Florida State running back and former Alabama transfer Roydell WIlliams is out for an extended period of time, Norvell announced.

The Seminoles are coming off a strong showing on the ground against Cal. Lawrance Toafili ran for 80 yards on 17 attempts and Kam Davis added seven carries for 25 yards.

“I thought those guys understood what was being asked of them,” Norvell said of Florida State’s offensive line after the game. “They knew we needed to be able to have some balance in this game. I mean, against that defense with just how they fly around, if we got in a drop-back game, there was some challenges that could present themselves. So I thought being able to work to establish the run was good. Having some success early was big.

“Some things later in the game that we got to absolutely clean up. But I really liked just the mindset those guys brought, knowing that it was a necessity for them to be able to get things going. They were aggressive in their play and obviously some things we’ll be able to go back and watch on the film and continue to clean up.”

Williams rushed for 54 yards on 20 carries in three games this season, good for an average of 2.7 yards per carry. The senior running back notched two rushing touchdowns and has five receptions for 46 yards.

Offensive linemen Robert Scott and Jeremiah Byers were given more favorable designations and could be ready for Saturday. Byers started the season opener against Georgia Tech for FSU, but he missed games against Boston College, Memphis and Cal.

3-1 SMU welcomes the defending ACC Champions, the Florida State Seminoles, to Dallas. The 1-3 Seminoles, led by Norvell, earned their first win of the season Saturday, defeating Cal, 14-9. The programs face off at 7 p.m. CT on the ACC Network on Saturday inside Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
