2023 SMU offensive line signee Alex Woods arrived to start his career on the Hilltop this summer. Get to know the Port Saint Lucie (Fla.) Treasure Coast product in our latest “Get to know a 2023 SMU signee” Q&A.

Current height and weight… 6-4, 300.

How are things looking academically to get on campus in June… “Things are looking good. I graduated and am looking forward to getting on campus.”

What are you working on the most until you arrive at SMU… “I have been working on conditioning and really my standard lifts. Also, my flexibility to make sure I am at my best shape for when I arrive.”

Favorite prospect in the 2023 class… “Honestly, I would say my favorite prospect is me, but if I had to say someone else I had to say it is Keldric Luster.”

Closest friend in the 2023 class… “I would say my closet friend in the class is my soon to be summer roommate Sean Scott. He’s a really cool guy meet him on my official visit and we instantly connected.”

On what you’ll remember from playing during your high school days… “One thing I’ll remember from high school is playing and beating our rivals Vero Beach and Centennial high school. Oh, and the time we beat the No. 5 team in the nation American Heritage.”

Something that irked you about the recruiting process “One thing is I would say is the times when coaches would hit you up and you reply then they don’t text back till a few days later.”

Why SMU… “I choose SMU because it just really felt like the right choice. It just didn’t feel like they liked me as a player. They made me feel at home and really made me comfortable and could feel the genuineness coming from them.”

If not SMU… “It would’ve been USF. I liked it a lot and it was close to home and I felt like Coach Mo (ex offensive line coach Allen Mogridge) really wanted me and seen the potential and future in me.”

Goals at SMU and beyond… “My goals at SMU is to get my degree, make my family happy and play football. After, I want to really get into the Life After Ball program.”

Favorite movie… “My favorite movie I would say is Remember the Titans, but a close 2nd is Friday Night Lights with Boobie Miles.”

Favorite artist… “My favorite music artist Rodarius Marcell Green aka Rod Wave. I’ve been listening to his music since 2019.”

Favorite celebrity… “My favorite celebrity is Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. My family and I would always watch the Bad Boys series and really loved it.”

Favorite sport… “My favorite sport is football. I’ve been playing since I was four, but always had a ball in my hand even right out the womb.”

Favorite pro team… “My favorite pro team is the Miami Dolphins. My brother is the one who really got me hooked on the Fins when I was younger, but ever since I’ve been fins up.”

Favorite athlete… “My favorite athlete is Trent Williams. I honestly think he’s a freak of nature and is the best player in the NFL.”

Favorite food… “My favorite food is mac ‘n cheese and fried chicken, but a close second is my dad’s lasagna.”

Something people don’t know about you… “I love reptiles. I’ve always wanted one as a pet, but my mom wasn’t going for it.”
