SMU brought in Ft. Worth (Tex.) Timber Creek tight end Lonnie Johnson as an early enrollee and he’s already gone through spring practice with the Mustangs.

Current height and weight… “6-3, 215.”

How are things going school wise at SMU so far… “Things are going good at school. Got the hang of college and ready to start my next semester.”

What are you working on the most now that you’re at SMU… “Gaining weight, getting stronger and doing better in the classroom.”

Closest friend in the 2023 class… “My closest friend is Alex Kilgore.”

On what you’ll remember from playing during your high school days… “Something I would remember is playing on Friday nights with my guys.”

A recruiting story you will remember most… “A recruiting story I will remember the most is when Oklahoma State offered me and they kept calling me like everyday asking if i was ready to commit.”

On being part of the 2023 SMU class… “I think being a part of the SMU 2023 recruiting class is pretty big because the new staff that came last year chose me to be a part of building their new team.”

Something that irked you about the recruiting process… “Something that irked me was that I was hearing the same thing from every school. Made it ten times harder to pick.”

Why SMU… “SMU because I feel like coach Lashee is building something great at SMU. Coach Woods has had a lot of successful guys throughout his coaching and I think working with him I can fall into that group. Also, a degree from there would have me set for life and that’s what I’m aiming for.”

If not SMU… “If not SMU, I would’ve probably went to TCU.”

Goals at SMU and beyond… “Goals at SMU are to get a degree, earn a spot on the field and then hopefully get an opportunity to play at the next level.”

Favorite movie… “Fast and Furious.”

Favorite artist… “NBA youngboy.”

Favorite sport… football.

Favorite athlete… “Favorite athlete is Lamar Jackson, Cam Newton, and DK Metcalf.”

Favorite food… “Hamburgers.”
