Home feeling led 2024 DB Jaylen Moses to SMU
SMU reeled in a commitment from 2024 Carrollton (Tex.) Newman Smith defensive back Jaylen Moses, who felt ready to make his decision ahead of his senior season. He was thrilled to get a home and family feeling on the Hilltop.
“It was honestly a blessing to have all the coaches recruiting me,” Moses told On3. “When I came there, it already felt like home. The coaches and players, it made me feel comfortable without even getting to know the atmosphere really. They made me feel like a part of their family.”
Defensive coordinator Scott Symons and defensive backs coach Rickey Hunley were keys in his recruitment, keeping things straight forward.
“He (Symons) is a real straight up guy. Real transparent. He’s basically going to keep it 100 with you — good or bad. I feel like that’s the coach I need in my career,” Moses said. “(Hunley is a) Real standout guy, transparent. Also a fun dude. They’re both funny. Cool people to hang around. Treat my parents and family nice.”

When he gets to the Hilltop, he knows it’s going to be a process to gain weight and that’ll lead to playing time. He comes into a safety room that won’t require him to play right away, which will allow him time to develop.
“I really need to put some weight on before I can start playing,” Moses said. “I see a lot of success. With coach Hunley and Symons, I feel like they’re going to get stuff really shaking up there.”
Now it’s time for his senior year and Moses is eyeing some things he wants to bring to the team.
“Get more interceptions, trying to get kickoff returns, too.”
