Jared Harrison-Hunte NFL Combine update: SMU DL makes statement with 40-yard dash

SMU defensive lineman Jared Harrison-Hunte made a statement on Thursday at the NFL Combine with his 40-yard dash, especially his 10-yard split in the test. The 4.87 is the third-fastest among defensive tackles and the 10-yard split (1.69) is tied for the fastest.
He checked in at 6-3, 290 pounds with 33-inch arms with a 6-7.5 wingspan as well. That type of size and athleticism will get scouts paying more attention. Harrison-Hunte told Lone Star Live at the East/West Shrine Bowl that he wanted to show scouts there that he can make a play.
“I want to show at least that 90% of the time I’m going to stop the run,” Harrison-Hunte said. “Ninety percent of the time, I’m going to put pressure on that quarterback.”
NFL.com draft analyst Lance Zierlein has Harrison-Hunte as a unique prospect for teams to look at. Now, with his impressive run, that could bolster his stock further.

“With a mature rush approach, Harrison-Hunte is a sixth-year senior who needs a scheme-specific fit,” Zierlein wrote. “He has average snap quickness and limited knock-back pop but rarely gets pushed around badly despite a lack of mass. He shines as a pass rusher, where he can be a constant menace for guards in pass pro. He plays with basketball feet and a boxer’s hand flurries to access edges and gain early advantages. He rushes with an unpredictable tempo and a relentless motor. Harrison-Hunte doesn’t have the size or length to stand out on early downs, but he might be dynamic enough to earn a spot as a rotational rusher.”
The 2024 campaign, his only at SMU, was the most successful for Harrison-Hunte. He tallied a career-high 42 tackles during his senior season, along with 8.5 TFLs and 6.5 sacks. For his success during the season, he earned All-ACC First Team accolades, along with also being tabbed to the AP All-ACC Second Team and DCTF First Team All-Texas squad.
The combine is in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium from through March 3. Live coverage can be found on NFL Network and NFL+.
