LB Kamryn Farrar no longer with SMU program
Linebacker Kamryn Farrar is no longer with SMU Football’s program, sources confirmed to On3. He played in 12 games in 2022, his first with the program.
The former Dallas (Tex.) Skyline standout entered the portal last year, leaving Oklahoma State. After spending one year with the Mustangs, he will have two years of eligibility remaining.
For SMU in 2022, he made 12 tackles, 10 of which were solo. The 6-0, 214-pound linebacker was behind expected contributors like Ahmad Walker, JaQwondis Burns, Chris Adimora and Alex Kilgore. SMU added summer additions in Temple transfer Kobe Wilson and high school signee Brandon Miyazono.
New SMU linebackers coach Maurice Crum spent the spring learning Scott Symons’ system, but he’s honed in on building competition in his new room. Even without Farrar, the competition is fierce.

“You really want to reward the guys who’ve had a good practice before,” Crum said during the spring. “It keeps everybody on their toes. I can’t say who the starters are going to be, who’s going to play 100, who’s going to play 50-50 reps, I don’t know any of that. This is training for that.”
In three seasons at Oklahoma State, Farrar accumulated 20 total tackles and 2.5 sacks. His best season came in 2021, where he set career highs in every category. He was credited with 13 tackles, nine of which were solo tackles, and 2.5 sacks while playing mainly on special teams in 14 games.
A former three-star recruit in the class on 2019, Farrar was the No. 99 linebacker in the nation, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average. The linebacker was the No. 102 recruit in Texas, and the No. 799 overall.
