Opponents are averaging 61.8 points (2nd AAC, 8th NCAA). The Mustangs are led in scoring by preseason All-AAC selection Zhuric Phelps (14.5, 14th AAC) and Chuck Harris (12.8). Phelps is also averaging 4.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.9 steals (5th AAC). About Temple: Jahlil White and Jordan Riley each scored in double figures as the Owls locked horns in a defensive battle with the North Texas Mean Green before being upended 69-51 on Saturday afternoon. It’s now 17-for-17 that the team that leads at halftime goes on to win the game. By trailing 32-22 after the first 20 minutes against North Texas, Temple is now 8-0 when leading at intermission and 0-9 when trailing at the break. Temple is in the top-100 nationally and fifth in the AAC in free throw percentage and nets 15.1 points per game from the line. Temple’s averaging 7.8 steals per game.
SMU has won four of the past five matchups against Temple and lost just six of 18 matchups since they became American Athletic Conference foes.
