The SMU Mustangs are set for another matchup in their 2024 season, this time opening their home schedule against Houston Christian. Follow along below for a live blog of the Mustangs vs. Huskies.

SMU got the ball first but could not get on the board on their opening drive. Mustangs punt the ball to HCU after a quick three-and-out.
After giving up a first down, the SMU defense stuffed the HCU offense with nice plays by Jonathan Jefferson and Deuce Harmon.
The Mustangs move down the field in a hurry and strike first! After a 47-yard run from Brashard Smith, Stone finds Hudson in the end zone just one play later for the touchdown. SMU leads 6-0 with 10:47 to go in the 1st quarter.
Just after the SMU offense scored, Ahmaad Moses picked off Cutter Stewart. SMU gets the ball at their 41-yard line.
Kevin Jennings came in for the Mustangs on their third drive. Jennings led the team down the field and the drive resulted in a touchdown. After Jennings scrambled multiple times to put SMU inside the 5, it was Brashard Smith who punched in the touchdown from a yard away. SMU leads 13-0 in the 1st.
The Mustang defense continues to be dominant, forcing another 3-and-out against the HCU offense.
Jennings was back at QB for the Mustangs’ 4th drive. This drive was just as smooth as the last one. Brashard Smith caps off another excellent drive for the Mustangs with a 2-yard touchdown. Smith’s second touchdown of the game puts the Mustangs up 20-0 with 3:04 to go in the 1st quarter.
BIG BOY TOUCHDOWN! After Jahfari Harvey forces the fumble, Tank Booker Jr. scoops up the loose ball and takes it to the house for the score. Mustangs running rampant here – they lead 28-0 and it’s still the 1st quarter.
It is ALL Mustangs after the 1st quarter. SMU leads 28-0 and is cruise control.
Brashard Smith continues to be a problem. Smith eclipsed 100 yards rushing as the Mustangs scored again! Jake Bailey finds the end zone for the 1st time since 2022 as the Mustangs now lead 35-0. 13:42 to go in the 2nd quarter.

Houston Christian is on the board. After a nice throw from Stewart to find Ismael Fuller on a 3rd down to put the Huskies inside the 10, HCU punishes the SMU defense. Stewart to McMillan and HCU cuts into the SMU lead. Mustangs hold a 35-7 lead with 12:19 to go in the 1st half.
The tempo of the game has slowed down in this one as the teams exchanged punts. Still 35-7 SMU with 7:20 to go in the 2nd quarter.
The SMU defense is providing great entertainment. The Mustangs are celebrating at Club Takeawy for the third time tonight via a Kori Roberson interception.
Keyshawn Smith with the jet sweep touchdown! Smith showed off his speed to get to the outside and take it the distance. SMU adds to their lead: 42-7 with 5:50 to go in the 2nd quarter.
HALFTIME: SMU is in full control as they lead 42-7.
The true freshman Derrick McFall shows off his wheels and scores from 17 yards out to make it 49-7 SMU! The Mustangs extend their lead with 7:35 to go in the 3rd quarter.
The Mustangs are slowing the tempo down and are in complete control. SMU leads 49-7 at the end of 3.
Kevin Jennings adds to his impressive performance with a rushing touchdown in the 4th quarter. Mustangs now lead 56-7 with 14:48 to go in the 4th.
Keldric Luster came into the game for the Mustangs in the 4th and his drive finished with a Colin Rogers field goal. That field goal was the final score of the game as the Mustangs advanced to 2-0 on the year with a 59-7 win over the HCU Huskies.
