About SMU: SMU won its third straight game with a 95-69 road win at Rice on Wednesday. SMU is 11-2 at Moody Coliseum and has seven straight home wins. Five Mustangs scored in double-figures vs. the Owls. Zhuric Phelps had 16 points, Ricardo Wright 15, Chuck Harris 11, Keon Ambrose-Hylton 10 and Samuell Williamson 10. The Mustangs need this one over the Mean Green to continue its chances at an AAC regular season championship. SMU is holding opponents to 39.0% (1st AAC, 10th NCAA) from the field. The three-point defense is 28.1% (1st AAC, 4th NCAA). The Mustangs took what was a close halftime lead and exploded for 55 points in the 2nd half.
About North Texas: The Mean Green are a game behind the Mustangs in the standings. UNT was without starting guards Rubin Jones and CJ Noland in Wednesday’s 68-55 win over Tulsa on the road. Their status for Sunday is unknown. North Texas was led in scoring by Aaron Scott who poured in 18 points and had 10 rebounds. While SMU grabbed 10 steals to force 12 turnovers against Rice, the Mean Green forced 16 Tulsa turnovers Wednesday.
