About SMU: The Mustangs host Tulane on Thursday, beginning a stretch that has four of the next six games at Moody Coliseum. In the second season under Rob Lanier, the Mustangs’ defense is among the best in the country. SMU is holding opponents to 37.8% (1st AAC, 5th NCAA) from the field, holding 16 of 20 opponents under 42.0%. SMU enters the matchup on a two-game losing streak after losing at North Texas 68-66 and at Wichita State 77-72. The Mustangs went from garnering attention as an at-large bid to needing an AAC Tournament Championship to land in the NCAA Tournament.

About Tulane: The Green Wave currently sits ninth in the American Athletic Conference with 10 games remaining. In its last time out, Tulane dropped back-to-back games for just the second time this season after falling at home to Charlotte 75-71 on Saturday, January 27. The Green Wave never led in the game against the 49ers but fought to the end pulling to within two points late in the second half after trailing by as many as 11 points earlier in the contest.

Kevin Cross led Tulane in scoring with 16 points while Tre’ Williams added his best scoring performance at Tulane finishing with 15 points off the bench. On the road this season Tulane holds a 2-3 record in true road games including a 1-3 mark in league play. The Green Wave is averaging 79.2 points on 45.1 percent shooting on the road while allowing opponents to average 82.0 points on 42.6 percent shooting.

SMU leads the series 26-17 and is 11-4 in meetings as AAC opponents. The Mustangs are 18-3 at home with a 6-1 record in AAC match-ups. SMU is 5-3 in New Orleans in AAC matchups. The first meeting between the programs came on Dec. 18, 1959, an 86-61 victory for SMU.
