Mississippi State transfer DL Eric Taylor commits to SMU
Former Mississippi State defensive lineman Eric Taylor has signed with SMU, according to On3’s Pete Nakos on Sunday. With the JUCO eligibility ruling, the former four-star would have three seasons of eligibility left after not playing in 2024.
In 2023, Taylor had 15 tackles and a 0.5 tackle for loss in 12 ball games. The former LSU player transferred to Southwest Community College in 2021. He had 28 tackles, 8.0 TFL and 3.0 sacks during the 2022 season after sitting out in 2021.

Taylor was expected to compete for a starting spot in the 2024 season, but didn’t play for the Bulldogs in either of the first two games. He was a 2023-24 First Year SEC Academic Honor Roll member.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Taylor was the No. 273 overall prospect in the country and No. 34 defensive lineman in the 2020 class.
