SMU adds plenty of competition to 2023 roster

SMU went out and signed one of the best transfer classes in the country, bringing in double-digit additions to the 2023 roster. Head coach Rhett Lashlee is ready to see the Mustangs dive into building the chemistry together needed to take the 2023 version to the top.

“We’re honest with them. We said, hey, we’re going go out and we’re going to try to add value to our team,” Lashlee told reporters after the National Signing Day celebration. “It’s your team. Every year we’re going to bring in new players, high school, transfer doesn’t matter. It happens everywhere around the country. Competition is a big part of what we want to be built on here. We can’t be scared of competition, it makes everybody better.

“But we’re honest with them, we’re going to bring in as good of players as we can to add value to this team. And it’s not because we don’t love you, we love everybody. The way they come in, everybody makes everybody better. And so if it works the right way and you bring in the right guys, they make your team better, but it also elevates the level of guys on your team.”

Miami offensive lineman Jakai Clark and Texas offensive lineman Logan Parr aren’t listed with the newcomers on the roster. The pair of transfers and rest of the high school signees will be added this summer.
