Ohio State transfer defensive lineman Omari Abor committed to SMU, he announced after his official visit this weekend. The former Duncanville (Tex.) standout will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Abor totaled just two tackles, including a tackle for loss, in his five appearances this year. He took a redshirt year in 2022 and will have three years of eligibility remaining. He was the No. 79 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Impressive Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson liked what he saw out of Abor, but he’s struggled to stay healthy early in college. Now, he could very well head home with a surgery behind him and look to make an impact.

“I like Omari. I think Omari is really starting to move forward,” Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson said in the spring. “He’s 265 [pounds] now. … He missed a lot of football. It’s the fundamental part and the technique stuff that you miss. And the conditioning part because he wasn’t doing the football stuff. So he’s playing catch-up.”
