Arizona State landed a commitment from Oklahoma defensive line transfer Kori Roberson, but now he flipped that commitmentSMU has landed the former Sooner out of the transfer portal days before summer session begins.

TCU hosted him the last two days for an official visit.

The Mustangs hosted him for an official visit this month, hoping for a reunion with SMU defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux coached Roberson while the pair were in Norman. In the end, that reunion was too much to pass up.

Roberson did not record any statistics for the 2022 season. He entered the NCAA Transfer Portal after going through spring practice with the Sooners.

In 2021 under Thibodeaux’ direction, Roberson played in 12 games, making 17 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a half-sack. He played in 10 games with four starts, making 11 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup in 2020.

In 2019, he played in four games while redshirting, making one tackle and a tackle for loss.

This spring, he lost his home in February to a tornado that ripped through Oklahoma. He shared the home with his sister and considers himself lucky, he told reporters.

“That first day, we really couldn’t do much because there was so much insulation and things going around the house,” Roberson said, “but my teammates came out that next day right after practice and helped me out tremendously. We cleared the house, swept, sprayed, everything you could think of. I want to thank my teammates and also my coaches again for helping out. That was very — it meant a lot to me. Me and my family.”
